For two years, I played alto sax and sang backups in a soul / R&B / reggae-beat / ska band called Torn Soul. There were eight of us, and our horn section was all-female.
Although there were many highlights during the two years we were together, the pinnacle was performing at Milwaukee’s prestigious Jazz in the Park, held in Cathedral Square throughout the summer.
Music has always been a big part of my life, with some peaks and valleys. This was the first time I’ve ever played in a band like this, and I loved it.
Due to all manner of dysfunction, however, Torn Soul broke up in November 2013.
In the meantime, I’m happy to say that I’m singing in a new, as-yet-unnamed band John started this year. We’ll be doing a different kind of roots music this time: rockabilly and old country, with dear friend Tom, our bass player in Torn Soul. Can’t wait to start performing live again. I’ve really missed it.
